Track days are an exciting time. In order to get the most fun out of it and make it a memorable - and safe - experience, it is crucial to bring the right gear. Here’s what you need to have and why that’s important.

→ Race Suit
On the track, it is compulsory to wear a race suit. A race suit is made up of 270 pieces of the highest quality, designed to protect riders when falling at high speeds. The most common choice when it comes to material is leather - usually kangaroo or cowhide. Both types are both extremely resistant to cut, tear and abrasion, but kangaroo leather can be 30% thinner as cowhide, while providing the same levels of strength. A kangaroo leather race suit is therefore lighter, but more expensive.

A close-fitting suit protects better in case of a fall, because it sits more firmly on the body and decreases the chance of semi-rigid protectors twisting. When choosing the right size for your race suit, you should always consider the space occupied by the chest and back protectors.

The back protector is always mandatory for track riders and must sit between the sacrum and the base of the neck, covering the entire spine. Every suit must feature inserts on shoulders, elbows and knees must meet strict EU standard certifications. The sliders on elbows and knees are designed so that you can get the best out of your riding, by helping you find the limit in cornering and allowing you to improve your riding technique.

Underneath the suit, it is advisable to wear a specific base layer, made of anti-sweat and anti-grip technical fabrics. These garments allow the rider to move more freely while riding. In addition, this fiber base layer makes it easier for the rider to slip in and out of the suit when putting it on and taking it off.

→  Gloves & Boots
Sport gloves with carbon guards must provide maximum safety and the highest hand sensitivity. Throttle, brakes and clutch levers require the utmost precision when operated. Timing and pressure are essential on the track.
Racing boots are composed of an inner bootie and shell for ease of use. Heel and toe guards should not hinder foot comfort. The boots should also offer good elasticity for fast and effective action on footpads and levers. Thick technical socks better insulate the foot from the heat coming from the engine and protect it from the greater stiffness a racing boot has compared to a regular urban shoe.

→ Helmet
The ideal helmet for track riding is a full-face helmet with a fiber shell and a double D ring chin strap. It should fit accurately and snugly on the head, without squeezing or hurting. Good cheek pad pressure makes the helmet more stable at high speed.

→ Green light.
Now you are ready to hit the track: when safety is top notch, your mind has no limits.
