→ While Honda's Marc Marquez announced he would miss the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, phone lines here at SPIDI in Italy started getting very hot.
The news got in on Thursday early in the morning. "SPIDI's official rider Iker Lecuona will substitute Marc Marquez at the #SpanishGP in Jerez".
30 hours before the first official session on track. We had to produce a leather race suit in less than two days. A "Mission Impossible".
→ We made the impossible possible.
DAY 1 → Nobody thought it could be done.
8.30 get the news from Iker: he is racing in MotoGP at Jerez this weekend with Repsol Honda Team
8:45 meeting with racing service and production teams is organized
9:30 all information come in: tech requirements, color and graphic details
9:45 CAD designer begins to design the suit
10:30 materials are taken into production line, in Sarego; all materials had already been tested and approved for racing use
11:00 automatic cutting machine operator begins to cut standard parts
12:00 CAD design is ready
13:00 automatic cutting machine operator begins to cut leather parts
14:00 printing process begins; it will take more than 2 hours to properly print and dry
16:00 3 stitching machine operators start the stitching process

DAY2 → We made the impossible possible.
7:00 3 operators carry on the stitching work
11.00 stitching is completed and suit assembled
11:30 SPIDI Airbag system is inserted to the suit and tested
12:00 suit is double checked, completed with knee and elbow sliders, plus inside removable protectors
12:30 suit leaves Sarego, destination Venice airport. It will reach Iker tonight.

Iker Lecuona got ready to return to MotoGP for the first time in two years.
He took Marquez’s place on the factory Honda team and was ready to exploit the opportunity aboard the RCV213V. Iker did an outstanding job at Jerez, a track he knows well.
